Five pieces we almost kept ourselves
The test we apply to every piece is simple: would we live with it. It follows that some pieces pass the test too well. These are five that came close to never being listed at all, in no particular order, with the reasons we let them go.
A stepped leather sofa
Furniture as terrain. It arrived, we sat on it, and the conversation about where it might go in a private house went on for a week. In the end the argument that won was that a piece this generous should be seen by more than two people. It is in the collection.
A copper pendant
Danish, layered, with an orange interior that turns any room the colour of a good evening. We hung it in the office for a fortnight under the pretext of testing the wiring. The wiring was fine on day one.
A flame cut brass light
Brutalist, patinated, entirely handmade. We chose not to polish it and we chose, with some difficulty, not to keep it.

A dining table with a sculptural base
Italian, precise on top and expressive underneath. It is the kind of table that makes a dinner feel like an occasion, which is exactly why it should be in someone's dining room rather than our storage.
A pine dining set
Solid, warm and newly upholstered. Not the rarest piece we have handled, and one of the most likeable. Likeable is underrated.
